Oxygen and survival systems: what is confirmed
How breathing, temperature, equipment, and environmental danger shape trip range in the current Early Access build—without invented timers or refill routes.
Part of: Survival hub
How oxygen limits your trip
The official store description tells players to keep breathing in open space and presents the spacesuit as something that can be upgraded. That makes oxygen a range problem: every excursion has to leave enough capacity to return.
Current first-party material does not publish a public timer, tank size, or refill value. Until those numbers are verified in the current Early Access build, plan trips around the HUD question the game already answers: how much of a given outing is spent getting back.
Temperature is a second confirmed gate, not a later-game footnote. Equipment is described as protection that helps the player enter new places, so some locations may wait on gear the starting loadout cannot handle. The store also mentions other unnamed details that can end a trip early; this page does not invent those as extra status bars, food meters, or radiation values.
Confirmed ways to manage oxygen
Only the following steps are sourced from official store copy, the launch announcement, or the in-game encyclopedia the developers tell players to use. They are a conservative loop, not a claimed optimal route.
- Treat oxygen and temperature as the range limit for each scavenging trip
- Read suit and equipment readouts before leaving a known return point
- Use the in-game encyclopedia for resource and system hints before extending a route
- Upgrade the spacesuit or equipment only when the live recipe UI shows a survival-range or protection benefit
- Return to safety before the HUD says the trip is spent
Step-by-step: plan a scavenging loop
Use this as a first-session planning routine. It does not depend on demo memory, invented seconds, or unverified refill maps.
- Before leaving: read the active objective, check oxygen/temperature/suit readouts, and open the encyclopedia for the resource you actually need
- Set a conservative turn-back point: one nearby object cluster, not several distant markers
- Scavenge outward only while you can still return with a mistake margin
- On return: deposit or use materials, note which constraint ended the trip, then craft or upgrade only if it removes that blocker
- Repeat the same loop until the return is predictable before expanding farther
What we will not invent
This guide will not publish unverified refill coordinates, oxygen-second timers, named tank sizes, or a best survival build. Exact depletion rates, refill points, and protection values still have to be read from the live HUD.
A separate first-outing budget page covers the trip order: station first, then the destination, then the return, with one portable refill reserved. That page labels the Public Oxygen Station and Purified Oxygen steps as community observation. This page still explains which systems exist, and it still does not publish timers.
Ice priorities are a third page: reserve a stack for oxygen crafting before turning the pile into water bottles. That habit is community observation. This page does not own it.
Early upgrade priority is a fourth page: spend the next unlock on oxygen capacity, cold protection, or a tool that cuts backtracking before cosmetic or combat gear. That sequence is community observation. This page does not own it.
Difficulty modes are a fifth page: Story, Easy, and Standard, including the official Hotfix 0.8.6 mid-save switch. That page does not publish Story or Easy drain multipliers.
If a later revision adds those details, they will be dated and sourced from the current Early Access build or an equally strong official note.
- Oxygen first-outing budget — Station first, one portable refill reserved
- Ice uses and priorities — Reserve a stack for air before bottling the pile
- Early upgrade priority — Route length before cosmetic or combat
- Difficulty modes explained — Official mid-save switch; no invented multipliers
How this guide is maintained
Breathedge 2 Guide treats official store and developer pages as the primary source of truth. Current-build community evidence can answer gaps the developers have not documented, but it is clearly labelled, attributed, and checked against conflicting reports.
Exact routes, recipes, timers, and balance values are dated when verified. If a detail is still uncertain, the guide says so instead of filling the gap with a guess.
