Upgrade sequence
Breathedge 2 early upgrade priority
Spend the next unlock on a longer route: oxygen capacity, cold protection, or a tool that cuts a repeated walk. Cosmetic and combat upgrades wait. This is a sequence, not a recipe list.

What this page owns
Official store copy says you scavenge, learn blueprints, craft tools and equipment, and upgrade gear and the spacesuit so you can reach places the starting loadout cannot. Crafting, blueprints, and upgrades explains that loop and why this site still has no current-build recipe table. Tools and upgrades explains what tool progression controls. Those two pages are the catalogs.
This page owns the early sequence: which kind of unlock to spend toward first. It is not a recipe list. The oxygen and survival systems guide owns which air and temperature systems exist. The oxygen first-outing budget owns station, then one destination, then the return, with one portable refill kept in reserve. Ice priorities owns holding Ice back for air before bottling the pile. Food, water, and fatigue pacing owns meter drain after Hotfix 0.8.6. The first-hour checklist owns the opening loop. This site does not sell the game.
- Crafting, blueprints, and upgrades — The crafting loop. Live recipe UI is the authority
- Tools and upgrades — What tool progression controls. No recipe table
- Oxygen and survival systems — Which air and temperature systems exist
- Oxygen first-outing budget — Station, destination, return, one portable refill reserved
- Ice uses and priorities — Reserve a stack for air before bottling the pile
- Food, water, and fatigue pacing — Meter drain after Hotfix 0.8.6
- First-hour survival checklist — Broad opening loop
Which early upgrade should you make first?
Community observation: spend the next upgrade on the constraint that shortens the route. Oxygen capacity, cold protection that lets a longer outing, and tools that cut a repeated walk come before cosmetic changes and before combat upgrades that do not open a location or a return path. Official store copy confirms spacesuit and gear upgrades, and it confirms that oxygen and temperature limit the trip. It does not rank those upgrades.
Name the constraint that ended the last trip — air, cold, or a walk you had to repeat — and spend the next craft on that constraint. If the HUD ended the trip on food, water, or fatigue, open the pacing page before you spend parts on a weapon or a cosmetic slot. The first-outing page still owns how you spend air on the way out and back.
- Read the last trip's blocker on the HUD before you open the crafting screen
- Prefer an unlock that increases how far you can go: oxygen capacity, cold protection, or a tool that removes a repeated walk
- Leave cosmetic upgrades until a route-length unlock is in place
- Leave combat upgrades until they are the thing blocking a location or a return, not because the panel shows a larger number
- If hunger, thirst, or fatigue ended the trip, fix that meter before an unrelated gear upgrade
- Do not copy a 2025 demo upgrade order into this build
- Oxygen first-outing budget — How to spend air on the outing, not which upgrade to craft
- Food, water, and fatigue pacing — When a meter, not gear, ended the trip
- Exploration and movement — Range before personal transport
How do you verify an unlock in the current build?
Open the crafting UI and the Encyclopedia entry for the blueprint you can already see. The pinned developer FAQ points players to the Encyclopedia for resource questions, and the same screens are the ingredient list for an upgrade. This page does not print counts. If community write-ups disagree, trust the number on your screen.
No official Steam news post through Hotfix 0.8.10 (2026-09-23 CST) publishes an ordered upgrade list, an ingredient table, or a restore amount for an early unlock. As of the 2026-09-28 check, that 0.8.10 post is still the latest official news for Steam app 2412960. Community catalogs that do print those figures are not copied here.
The calculator on this site uses fictional sample data. It is not a Breathedge 2 upgrade recipe. Demo-era lists are historical. Do not copy a 2025 ingredient list into this build.
- Open the crafting screen for the exact blueprint you can already see
- Open the Encyclopedia entry before you spend a material you cannot replace
- Confirm the output text says it changes range, protection, or travel — not only appearance or a combat stat
- If two community lists disagree on a count, use the number on your screen
- Ignore demo-era ingredient lists
- Pinned developer FAQ — Official · resource answers point to the Encyclopedia
- Crafting, blueprints, and upgrades — Live recipe UI is the authority; the calculator is sample data
- Steam news: 0.8.10 — Official · latest news as of 2026-09-28; no upgrade order
- Demo vs Early Access — Demo routes and recipes are not current-build facts
What is official, and what is community?
Official: the Steam store describes breathing, temperature, scavenging, blueprints, crafted tools and equipment, and gear and spacesuit upgrades as part of the current Early Access loop. Equipment is described as protection that helps you enter new places. The pinned developer FAQ tells players to use the Encyclopedia for resource hints. It does not publish an ordered upgrade list. Steam news through Hotfix 0.8.10 (2026-09-23 CST) also does not. As of the 2026-09-28 check, that 0.8.10 post is still the latest official news for Steam app 2412960. Those notes change food, water, and fatigue drain, named softlocks, Suit VO, and Deck UI. They do not rank early crafts.
Community: the sequence on this page — route length and survival uptime before cosmetic or combat upgrades — is advice for the current Early Access build. Label it community observation. It is not a developer tier list, and it is not a named item order. The on-screen recipe outranks a third-party list.

How this guide is maintained
Recheck this page if Steam news or the pinned FAQ publishes an official upgrade order, or if a hotfix changes what the crafting screen says an unlock does. Until then the habit stays: spend the next unlock on the constraint that shortens the route, and read the live recipe before you spend parts.
How this guide is maintained
Breathedge 2 Guide treats official store and developer pages as the primary source of truth. Current-build community evidence can answer gaps the developers have not documented, but it is clearly labelled, attributed, and checked against conflicting reports.
Exact routes, recipes, timers, and balance values are dated when verified. If a detail is still uncertain, the guide says so instead of filling the gap with a guess.
