Resource priority
Breathedge 2 Ice uses and priorities
Ice shows up in both thirst and oxygen crafting notes. Reserve a stack for the next air craft or machine prompt before you turn the rest into water bottles.

What this page owns
Official store copy says you keep breathing in open space, scavenge resources, and craft equipment. That is the systems fact. The oxygen and survival systems guide owns which systems exist. The oxygen first-outing budget owns the trip order: station, then one destination, then the return, with one portable refill kept in reserve. Food, water, and fatigue pacing owns meter drain after Hotfix 0.8.6. Inventory and resource management owns the general keep-or-carry method.
This page owns one material decision: hold Ice back for air before you spend the stack on drinking water. Plastic is a different resource. The pinned developer FAQ says plastic is in pipes or suitcases, and that the in-game Encyclopedia is where to check resource hints. That answer does not describe Ice.

Should you turn every Ice chunk into water?
Community: no. Keep a reserve for the next oxygen craft, then bottle what you still need for thirst. A community resource note says the author keeps Ice because water and oxygen both create demand for it, and treats the choice between drinking water, station refills, and portable oxygen as an oxygen decision. A community crafting note names Ice among the materials for Purified Oxygen after an Oxyworm unlock.
Those notes do not agree on restore amounts, so this page does not print one. They also do not become an official recipe. Open the crafting screen and the item tooltip before you spend Ice, Metal, or Oxyworms. If a Public Oxygen Station or other oxygen machine prompt asks for Ice, that live prompt is the authority. The first-outing page already records that some write-ups say the station wants Ice after repair, and that this site has not verified that cost.
- Read the crafting screen, the item tooltip, and any oxygen machine or station prompt before you spend Ice
- Leave a stack unused for the next Purified Oxygen craft, or for a prompt that asks for Ice
- Turn additional Ice into drinking water only after that air reserve is set
- Use the Encyclopedia when a resource hint is unclear; the developer FAQ points players there for resource questions
- If air was not the blocker, the Ice reserve will not fix hunger, fatigue, or a stuck quest
- Community resource note: Ice demand — Community · water and oxygen both create demand; no recipe counts used
- VGTimes crafting notes: Purified Oxygen — Community · names Ice on the craft. Restore amount and counts not used; write-ups disagree
What is official, and what is community?
Official: the Steam store describes breathing, scavenging, and crafting as part of the current Early Access loop. The pinned developer FAQ answers plastic, titanium, and Spraytron questions and tells players to use the Encyclopedia. It does not publish an Ice recipe, a water-bottle yield, or an oxygen restore value. Steam news through Hotfix 0.8.10 (2026-09-23 CST) also does not. As of the 2026-09-28 check, that 0.8.10 post is still the latest official news for Steam app 2412960.
Community: crafting and resource write-ups are why this page tells you to reserve Ice. Label them as community observation. The on-screen recipe and the station prompt outrank a third-party list. This site’s crafting calculator uses fictional sample data and is not a Breathedge 2 Ice recipe.

- Pinned developer FAQ — Official · resource answers point to the Encyclopedia
- Steam news: 0.8.10 — Official · latest news as of 2026-09-28; no Ice recipe

Is quest ice the same as the Ice you carry?
No. Hotfix 0.8.8 (2026-09-10 CST) fixed two quest interactions: after the ice was broken off the Zarya engines, the starter handle still reported that ice was present, and knocking the ice off the pump in the taxi complex did not always start it. Those are Chapter 1 object bugs. They are a different problem from the Ice stack you carry for water and oxygen crafts.
When a quest object will not clear, open the Chapter 1 stuck pages. When the HUD is asking you to spend carried Ice on a bottle or an air craft, stay on this page.

Numbers this page will not print
No official note through Hotfix 0.8.10 lists how much thirst a water bottle restores, how much air Purified Oxygen restores, or how many Ice pieces a craft consumes. Community write-ups that do print those figures already disagree, which is why the oxygen first-outing page also leaves them off. Read the current tooltip.
Demo-era recipes are historical. The developer said the demo changed substantially. Do not copy a 2025 ingredient list into this build.

How this guide is maintained
Recheck this page if a hotfix or the pinned FAQ publishes an Ice recipe, or if the live crafting screen stops asking for Ice on air crafts. Until then the habit stays: reserve a stack for oxygen, then bottle what thirst still needs.
How this guide is maintained
Breathedge 2 Guide treats official store and developer pages as the primary source of truth. Current-build community evidence can answer gaps the developers have not documented, but it is clearly labelled, attributed, and checked against conflicting reports.
Exact routes, recipes, timers, and balance values are dated when verified. If a detail is still uncertain, the guide says so instead of filling the gap with a guess.
